Albert “Ibokwe” Khoza (born 23 August 1987) is a South African actor, performance artist, dancer, and flamboyant sangoma. He is best known for his role in the drama series Blood Psalms.

Ibokwe says his new role educates people on the difference between isangoma and igedla. He plays Ngcuka in the e.tv series Smoke and Mirrors. He has collaborated with Oupa Sibeko, Lerato Matolodi, and Musa Zwane.

Albert Khoza was born on 23 August 1987 in Johannesburg. He grew up in a big city and based there. He has produced controversial works that push buttons.

Career

Ibokwe plays MaDlamini in the television series Blood Psalms. His character is the nanny to Princess Zazi but has many secrets. The character has power behind the scenes of the Akachi kingdom.

In the South Africa’s own Game of Thrones, his role has gained prominence. MaDlamini belongs to The House of Akachi and is Princess Zazi’s protector.

Khoza made history in his debut TV role in Blood Psalms series. He smashed the gender barrier as the first male to play a cis-female character on a South African mainstream series.

It is the first in the country that a man plays a female role without the switch being part of the storyline. He is also a theatre performer and was glad to return in December 2020.

Ibokwe hosted a two-night performance TheRed Femicycle at the Soweto Theatre in Soweto on the 1st and 2nd of December. He took a break from theatre because it didn’t align with his line of work.

After his studies, he performed abroad since local theatres had not accepted his work. He quit performing and moved to galleries and warehouses. 

Albert created The Red Femicycle around 2017 – 2018. It was to comment on what was happening in South Africa and the world. He spends most of his time performing outside South Africa. 

Ibokwe had moved his work out of theatres because of those he called gatekeepers, who didn’t think his work belonged to a theatre.
